PLANTING GUIDE
MORINGA OLEIFERA VARIETY: MORINGA
The wonder plant! Can grown into a tree or if pruned regularly can be encouraged to bush which makes harvesting easier. The entire plant is edible and highly medicinal. Every part of this plant is beneficial to human health.
SEASON: SPRING/ SUMMER FULL SUN
DISTANCE BETWEEN PLANTS: 1-3m
DISTANCE BETWEEN ROWS 1-2.5m
SEED DEPTH IN THE GROUND: 2.5cm
Growing tips:
Sow seeds in a well prepared bed with added organic compost and lightly tamp the soil down on top of them. They do not like compacted soil. Then, water them thoroughly. The tree enjoys hot climates and can be planted very closely if harvested regularly for very high biomass yields in wet, tropical areas.
Harvest: You can harvest the leaves as soon as they form and eat them raw in salads, steamed or cooked or they can be dried and powdered to add to your soups, stews, gravies or juices. The seeds can be made into oil. The immature pods can be harvested and prepared as you would french beans. Trees can grow 10m tall or kept to 1.5m by pruning. For leaf production 1m between plants and 1m between rows. For seed pod production recommended spacing 2.5m x 2.5m
Edible parts of the plant: Leaves, seeds, immature seed pods “drumsticks”, flowers, bark, roots.
